China EMBA Delegation Visits U.S.SBA Seattle Office

【 Seattle, WA - A group of entrepreneurs, government officers and faculty from Antai School of Management in Shanghai Jiaotong University visited U.S.SBA's regional office (Alaska, Idaho, Oregon and Washington) located at 1200 Sixth Ave (15th Floor), Seattle, Washington on May 5, 2005 at 9:30 A.M. They offer exciting business opportunities for Washington State's business owners.

【 Through the videoconference, Mr. Hector Baretto, the Small Business Administrator in Washington D.C. welcomed the arrival of the delegation and wished them a successful visit to America. Manuel Rosales, the Associate Administrator for SBA's Office of International Trade introduced the functions and services of the Office of International, including the programs related to China business. Joining in the welcoming ceremony and the seminar were other dignitaries Alain Desevre, head of China in the U.S. Department of Commerce, Ms. Glynis Long, SBA Office of International Trade Export Specialist in D.C., Ms. Sylvia Gercke, SBA Regional Communications Director and Connie Marshal, SBA Regional Advocate for the Northwest and Alaska, Nancy Gilbertson, SBA District Director for the State of Washington. Other senior officers from Department of Commerce are Bob Deane, International Trade Specialist, who also spoke at the conference and introducing his responsbilities to the delegation.

During the seminar, Norm Proctor, SBA Regional Administrator for Alaska, Idaho, Oregon and Washington introduced Peterson B. Zhou, President of Superdirector International Business Research, Consulting & Services Company and the President of the Overseas Chinese Scholars Association, who facilitated and organized this event through his company and his association.

【 "Washington is a significant exporter of farm, industrial and consumer goods to China," said Norm Proctor, "We have a huge amount of trade know-how and ties to many of our Pacific Rim partners in Asia. Farmers, business owners, workers and consumers across the State of Washington benefit enormously by expanded market access to China and people in both countries are better off as a result of ongoing commerce."

【 Antai School of Management is listed by Forbes Magazine and the World Journal as one of the 10 best Chinese business schools. Led by Guoxiang Huang, Director of External Relations and Jurong Guo, Director of EMBA Office, the delegation are from three major cities, Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou representing a wide range of industries: automotives, media, biotech, real estate development, medical equipment, shipping, electronics, textiles, petroleum, insurance, tax, finance and wholesale.

Additionally, Chinese small business owners have invited Regional Administrator Norm Proctor and his great team to visit China on a trade mission.

China's 1.3 billion people represent a huge market for Washington State's agricultural and manufactured goods and services. According to the World Bank, China will need to spend an estimated $750 billion in new infrastructure over the next decade. Washington companies in the aircraft, truck manufacturing, software, and other sectors are well placed to participate in and benefit from these projects.
